Note to self...
On two rim to rim hikes through the Grand Canyon, I had the honor of helping another by carrying their pack. It is quite the hike, and it is no small feat to make it through the switchbacks, the heat, the rattlesnakes(!), and still hold the baggage you brought with you. I was proud to do it, to show love in the way that I could, and even to show myself that I am, in fact, strong.
Like all of us, I have been to the valley floor of life a few times, felt the weather shift to searing heat, unsure I could make it. Been met by death’s eyes starting into my own, feeling that every step is leading to just another step, never gaining traction. I reflect with immense gratitude on those that reminded me I have what I need and am enough to climb the switchbacks and enter the shade of the pines. To look back and see that, actually, it was all beautiful, the harsh and the easy. And to those that, in the greatest moments of despair, took the weight, so I could regain my footing, catch my breath, and journey on, thank you for saving me. I felt I was a burden, and now I am reflecting that the time was a gift, for all of us. The hero and the beaten. Thank you.
And now, in gratitude, I can close those chapters...for it is time for new adventures...new writings...new steps...more Love.
