There's more, better thoughts behind that first one...
There's more, better thoughts behind that first one...

The first voice, yes, needs heard

Sometimes quick and right

Sometimes keeps you safe

And sometimes leads you astray

Let the other voices in

Let them be heard

The one that says it’s ok

The one that says there’s another way

The one that says love, not fear

Should rule this day

Let the voices be heard

Love

Nana’s Note

(I was having a fun conversation with my parents this weekend, and my mom (referred to by everyone as "Nana" shared that she would sometimes like to know what I meant by the writing...so here you go...Nana's Note. 😍)

Our thoughts often turn into action or belief, and it can be dangerous to let the first thought that pops into our head be the only one that decides what we do or what we believe. Yes, our gut response is necessary in some situations. It can keep us safe from things that are truly dangerous, for example. But our gut response was also molded by life experiences that shouldn’t be replicated, and we need to consider other options. This writing is about pausing and letting those other voices in our heads be heard. The ones that say maybe there is another way to do something, to react to something, to even question what we thought we believed. Those other voices might let love in and love prevail just a little bit more in our life and the lives of others.
